The healing power of fidelity

The desire and willingness to exercise the fidelity and faithfulness inherent in my relationship to God proved to be effective.

For high-fidelity sound, every frequency component in the spectrum of the source must be amplified and reproduced. “High-fidelity,” or high-definition, video includes reproducing every shape, form, and color to be exactly like the original. Likewise, spiritual fidelity means not only that we include all the qualities of our spiritual identity as the child of God—qualities such as intelligence, harmony, inspiration, and compassion—but that we live those traits as well.

An excellent biblical example of this is the patriarch Abraham, whose nature is defined in part in the Glossary of the Christian Science textbook as “fidelity; faith in the divine Life and in the eternal Principle of being” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 579). Abraham learned to let God use him as a high-fidelity representation of the Divine. He perceived the truth of one God and God’s great goodness. He found he could rely on this divine Principle, and made it the basis for his life. Such faithfulness includes yearning to do God’s will.

Of course, the great Exemplar, Christ Jesus, most fully demonstrated fidelity in doing God’s will even to the point of laying down his life for the salvation of humanity. This kind of faithfulness is beautifully stated in the Lord’s Prayer given by Jesus to his disciples (see Matthew 6).
