Prayer brings unexpected recovery
Christian Science has been my way of life and my only means of healing for over forty years. I was introduced to this Science as a child by a loving sister-in-law, whose prayers healed me of chronic earaches, deafness, grief, a discordant relationship with my mother, fear of separation, and bullying by kids at school. Although I wasn’t told that these were Christian Science healings until I was in college, as a child I certainly experienced the harmonizing effect of Christianly scientific prayer.
I started knowingly relying on Christian Science for physical healing in my early twenties. As I began studying the Bible, along with Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, I found I could prove the healing power of Christian Science for myself. Although this prayer-based healing was always effective insofar as I practiced it, I still wasn’t willing to trust God completely with my health.
After I married, I became very ill with a diseased gallbladder. Eating caused me pain, so I mostly avoided food for about a month and became malnourished. When I did eat, the pain was so severe that I couldn’t pray. My husband, who was not a Christian Scientist, was understandably afraid for me and finally persuaded me to go to the emergency room.
