What does it mean to be blessed?
One of the most powerful and useful things we can do to help ourselves and others is to understand that each of us is blessed; that each of us is a loved and complete child of God, lacking nothing. Each of us is blessed because God is blessing us completely, and therefore we have all the qualities we need, including peace, intelligence, harmony, satisfaction, and love.
In the book of Matthew, Jesus presents a related idea, explaining, “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (5:3). That is, any of us experiences God’s blessing on us as His children as we—feeling “poor in spirit,” humble and not willful—are receptive to God, Spirit, bringing into our consciousness the kingdom of heaven.
As we are receptive to Spirit and understand more about our oneness with God (that we are the very expression of God), we find that our human needs—such as food, shelter, appropriate companionship, love, and more—are increasingly met. We are inspired to discern right ideas and appropriate solutions that meet our needs.
