Finding spiritual fulfillment
In 1964, a religious teacher came from overseas to the United States on a tour. My in-laws were host to him for a few days, and from there he went to a prayer meeting at another relative’s house. Since I was a seeker after Truth, and we lived nearby, my mother-in-law told me of the meeting and urged me to attend, which I did.
I don’t remember much about the meeting, but I do remember, shortly afterward, deciding to take time for quiet contemplation. I soon felt a profound peace and love emanating from what I understood to be the Christ. The feeling was so indescribable that for years afterward, I could not tell anyone of the experience without tearful and deep heartfelt emotion.
I asked my husband if he would take me to the library, where I could search through the books on inspiration and religion, as I had a strong desire to retain the awareness of the Christ-presence I had experienced. I came out of the library holding a book close to my heart. It was Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
