Eternally safe
For the Lesson titled "God the Preserver of Man" from June 10 - 16, 2013
God’s protection is eternal and ever present—a life-preserver. The Christian Science Bible Lesson for this week, titled “God the Preserver of Man,” gives us many examples of how God keeps us safe, regardless of our circumstances. It includes some favorite Bible stories and citations, including Psalm 91, Noah and the ark, and Daniel and the lions’ den.
I’ve always appreciated God’s promise of protection near the end of the Noah story. Interestingly, there are flood stories associated with all ancient cultures, in which the local god flooded the whole world and only one or a select few were saved.
The biblical flood story of Noah and the ark closely resembles several other Near Eastern versions, especially the Atrahasis Epic and a portion of the Gilgamesh Epic, both early creation myths from Mesopotamia.
