Opportunity in the midst of crisis

Last year I found myself in the middle of a crisis. I was in charge of a big fundraising auction for a local women's group. A few days before the auction, an incident happened that sent us scrambling to find a new place to house the event. Rather than panic, I thought that God had not given me "the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" (II Tim. 1:7). This helped me to be calm and listen for direction. And within a short time, we were able to make arrangements for a new meeting place that was actually better for us than the first one.

One day during this time, I started to show symptoms of a bladder irritation and a cold. By evening, I was feeling much worse. I looked and sounded like a person in one of those cold medication advertisements. I was irritated and irritable. I also realized that I had been rushing around so much that I'd neglected to take care of my spiritual needs.

It was then that I turned wholeheartedly to God and His First Commandment: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Ex. 20:3). I understood that there was only one God, who was all good and all power. And I knew from experience that I could trust in prayer to bring about physical healing. So I just let that idea of God's powerful goodness and care for me flood my thoughts.
