Back spasms healed and mobility restored

A little over a year ago, I began having muscle spasms in my back. I also fell one day, and that added to my pain and discomfort. I was unable to walk without aid and had to sleep in a reclining chair.

I asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me and we talked every day. My condition worsened at first, and I was no longer able to take care of my daily needs. So I checked into a Christian Science care facility in St. Louis.

I had been a very active senior and had enjoyed dancing and volunteer work. One day I became quite despondent, and in conversation I blurted out to the practitioner that I had lived a good, full life and really didn't mind passing on, if that would end the pain. I'm grateful that she immediately told me those were suicidal thoughts and reminded me of something that Mary Baker Eddy wrote: "... so long as we have the right ideal, life is worth living and God takes care of our life" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 166). Understanding this marked a turning point in my situation. I began to change the way I was thinking. I rejected the thought of dying.
