Truth is changing the world
Original in German
Can Truth change the world? Even though progress seems to come slowly at times, we can be confident that humanity is advancing. Peoples and nations are either on the move themselves or are being moved. Despite challenges on many sides, nothing ultimately can impede the spiritual progress of mankind.
Truth's quiet power is illustrated by a parable Christ Jesus told in which a woman took leaven and worked it into "three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened" (Luke 13:21). This spiritual leaven, or the truth that he taught, has gone out into the world, and it continues to bless those who are receptive to God's power.
Humanity is recognizing more and more the inadequacy of reliance on materialism and its inability to provide freedom and justice. Yet this recognition does not always come about in a peaceful manner. As the leaven of Truth penetrates even the most hidden corners of mortal thought, it brings to the surface and destroys old, fossilized, materialistic thinking and habits. There may be a mental battle when the old beliefs do not yield to the new ideas. Yet that should not alarm us, for Truth neutralizes and heals, and even in the midst of the battle we can see clearly that progress has already begun.
