I have always loved Christian Science

I have always loved Christian Science. When my father was in his early twenties, his case was given up by the doctors. Someone gave him a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and he was healed. Later he helped many others through his healing work. My mother, who was my father's medical nurse, witnessed that first healing, and she eventually turned to the study and practice of Christian Science.

One winter day, when I was trying to free a door that was frozen shut, I pounded the frame with my fist. My hand slipped and went through the glass, and there was profuse bleeding. I recalled this statement in Science and Health and accepted it completely (p. 424): "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's unerring direction and thus bring out harmony." The bleeding stopped immediately.

For several days there were times of pain and an inability to move the fingers. But I prayed daily for myself and was not fearful, as I felt the healing had begun at the moment of my decision to "leave the mortal basis of belief" regarding accidents. By the end of that week I was totally free and there were no scars.
