Where is peace?

Everyone wants peace in the world. But sometimes we may forget just how much of a real contribution we can make by first demonstrating peace within our own lives.

Peace. You can't help thinking about it with so much of the world at war, with so many societies torn by internal strife and hatred. Or closer to home, noisy neighbors, screaming children, a boss with a terrible temper, can all make you simply yearn for peace.

One evening some time ago I was called to discuss a church assignment. Our branch Church of Christ, Scientist, was going to sponsor a Christian Science lecture on peace for the community, and in preparation for this lecture several church members were being asked to prepare short inspirational papers on different subjects concerning peace.

While I was on the telephone our youngest child wound herself in the phone cord, and her sister begged me to come see a tower she'd built. I patiently asked them to wait until I was finished on the phone. The scene then degenerated into a big argument between the two little girls about carrot sticks, and they ended up screaming and running through the house. I was furious! Why was it that I couldn't spend five minutes on the phone, in peace, without some major upset?
