Some years ago, as a new student of Christian Science, I memorized...

Some years ago, as a new student of Christian Science, I memorized "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. A few days later I had an opportunity to put it into practice. As I leaned over to pick up mail I'd dropped, I felt a sharp pain in my back and then could not straighten up. I thought through the above named statement from Science and Health slowly, drinking in the spiritual import of the words. It begins: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." On the second time I prayed through this statement, I was able to rise and stand up straight, completely free. Before I had become acquainted with Christian Science, this discomfort had been chronic, and I had had few periods of relief from it. Once the rules of Christian Science were applied to the difficulty, not only was I healed but the condition never recurred. And this was more than thirty years ago.

On another occasion, when I was out walking my dog, I stepped into a depression in the ground and turned my ankle. This resulted in severe pain. Immediately the thought came, "It never happened." I kept right on walking with no further pain. This statement from page 397 of Science and Health appeared that week in the Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly: "Declare that you are not hurt and understand the reason why, and you will find the ensuing good effects to be in exact proportion to your disbelief in physics, and your fidelity to divine metaphysics, confidence in God as All, which the Scriptures declare Him to be."

Pondering this instantaneous healing later, I realized that the declaration of Truth had come so quickly and powerfully that fear and its effects never had a chance to come into consciousness or be manifested. I rejoiced all the way home.
