Some time ago I was thrown from my bicycle while going downhill...
Some time ago I was thrown from my bicycle while going downhill at full speed. Apparently the brakes were faulty. At first I was badly off. I had cuts and bruises all over my body, and also my head did not feel quite right. However, as a member of The Mother Church I was determined to rely solely on God's help. I was roused to the fact that material conditions can in no way affect man's real being; man cannot be injured. With good reason it says in our textbook (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 424), "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection."
I requested and received the friendly assistance of a Christian Science practitioner, for which I am very grateful, as she helped me out of this deplorable condition. For days I was faithfully and discerningly guided in such a way that much false thinking was eliminated and replaced by God-centered thoughts. During those days I could be up and about, and soon I was able to attend to my regular activities again. Always I continued in my endeavor to realize that injuries such as those from which I was suffering were baseless, unreal—they could not touch real spiritual being. I remained at all times under the harmonizing, healing influence of Christian Science. This method of purifying consciousness is stated in Science and Health. Mrs. Eddy encourages us: "Realize the presence of health and the fact of harmonious being, until the body corresponds with the normal conditions of health and harmony" (p. 412).
After about a week, there was no remaining evidence of injury. I was able to move freely, and I could ride my bicycle again.
