I was a very new student of Christian Science at the time of my marriage. My husband, when a teen-ager, had been introduced to Science by a neighbor. Throughout our married life, my husband's steadfast trust in the revealed truths was a constant reminder during testing times that Christian Science does heal. I realize more fully now what a great gift he gave me in sharing his love for this teaching.

A few years before his passing, my husband had a wonderful healing of deafness. This was accomplished with the loving help and encouragement of a Christian Science practitioner, who was also a longtime friend. My husband prayed with deep consecration, acknowledging the completeness of his real spiritual being. One day when I called to him while he was in another part of the house, he answered without hesitation. He had been beautifully and thoroughly healed of the hearing difficulty!

At one time I slipped on the floor of the garage and badly injured my knee. Although I was able to get into the house, I soon found I could not put any weight on that leg. I called a practitioner for help. She reminded me of a passage in Miscellaneous Writings by Mrs. Eddy (pp. 82-83): "Immortal Mind is God, immortal good; in whom the Scripture saith 'we live, and move, and have our being.' This Mind, then, is not subject to growth, change, or diminution, but is the divine intelligence, or Principle, of all real being; holding man forever in the rhythmic round of unfolding bliss, as a living witness to and perpetual idea of inexhaustible good." The word "holding" was emphasized, as the practitioner pointed out that God's man is not made of fragile matter but of the substance of immortal Spirit, and that we are truly held in God's love. I was scheduled to serve in our local Christian Science Reading Room the following day, and I made this known to the practitioner.
