The Simplicity of the Christ

The consecrated Truth-seeker should find the healing method of Christian Science simple and natural. But very often, before he has grasped the fundamentals of Science, a new student is tempted to believe that Christian Science is difficult to understand and demonstrate.

It may encourage such individuals to know that this same notion at times presents itself to the most experienced student, particularly when he feels overwhelmed by some difficulty. But it is even more helpful to know that no matter to whom this suggestion comes, or when, it merely represents the world's resistance to the Christ. This suggestion has no ability of its own to obscure or obstruct the healing power of the Christ, any more than darkness can obliterate light. As John said, "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." I John 1:5;

Mary Baker Eddy writes: "Christian Science is simple, and readily understood by the children; only the thought educated away from it finds it abstract or difficult to perceive. Its seeming abstraction is the mystery of godliness; and godliness is simple to the godly; but to the unspiritual, the ungodly, it is dark and difficult. The carnal mind cannot discern spiritual things." Miscellaneous Writings, pp. 53, 54;
