Yesterday and To-day

When now I think of yesterday,Its burdens, and horizon gray,When all to me was dreary,And every moment wearyWith fear that the to-morrowWould bring new pains and sorrow—

Understanding God

No brighter thought sheds beacon gleams to cheerEach pilgrim journeying through earth's drear,Than this—that God is Light.

Gratitude

I thank Thee, Father, for the light,That shines effulgent on my way,Helping me see and solve arightThe problems of the day.

Thy Likeness

A sleep men dream, and dreaming seeA world of pain and misery.

Awake Thou

Doth thy way seem lonely, tired heart,Thy way seem far from other men apart,No friendly far out-reaching hand,No one near to understandThy hopes, the good that thou wouldst know?

Along the Way

Make straight His road so interlaced,So covered o'er with self;Let me but see amid the gloomThe vision of Thyself,So lowly sweetThat, in the seeing, I may graspSomething of love to help me passUndaunted on my way.

"Comfort ye"

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

Then and Now

Memory no more need lingerIn the wretched bygones, whenTreacherous hope's seductive fingerPointed to a distant "then.

Lilies and Deeds

Deep in the earthA lily heard the call:Go forth—proclaim your faithIn Life's unfailing power.
