TeenConnect: Up Front

When I woke up in pain one morning recently, the first thing I did was to log on to this website to read testimonies of healing. Your testimonies. I don’t remember how many I read, but it was probably at least a dozen. As I did, something really cool happened.

When I first woke up, my mind was whirling with fear and concern over the pain. Thoughts like, “What caused this?” and, “How long will this last?” were coming at me thick and fast. But as I read your healings, my thoughts moved from a fixation on my body to more of a feeling that in fact, divine Love was the real presence—not pain. And I felt reassured that I was taking the safest, most effective approach to healing by listening in prayer for God—for Love, which is also Truth—to tell me what was true about me. I saw how powerful this approach was in all your testimonies. In every case, as you allowed the pure, good, and right ideas from God to fill your thoughts, you were healed. And after I read your healings, my own thought shifted, and I was healed, too.

Consider how powerful your healings are. How much they matter.

With that in mind, consider how powerful your healings are. How much they matter. How much every single one of them matters. Because if they could have that kind of impact on me, think about how much of a force for healing they are in the world. After all, it’s a global audience that’s reading your testimonies. And with each reader, there’s the potential for the same kind of thought-shift, the same kind of movement toward a more spiritual, God-based perspective. Toward healing.

Maybe the idea that your testimony could have such a broad impact seems difficult to believe. But check this out. A friend of mine, who recently visited the Philippines, learned that Christian Science took root in the mountains near the city of Baguio all because of a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel, which was left behind by a group of American soldiers during World War II.

Think about that. Dozens of people found out about Christian Science, and began practicing it, before they even had a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Before there was a church or a Christian Science practitioner or an “official” Christian Scientist who could answer their questions. What they did have were the powerful, transforming ideas in testimonies and articles just like yours. It was enough to launch them. And today, 70-something years later, they’re still going strong.

Thank you so much for your contributions.

Over the last several weeks, as I’ve met with different groups of TeenConnect readers who have been in the Boston area, I’ve thanked them for writing for the Christian Science Sentinel because of the kind of blessings their contributions offer to readers everywhere. My own healing, and the blossoming of Christian Science in the Philippines, are two of many exuberant answers to Mrs. Eddy’s question in her “Communion Hymn,” “Felt ye the power of the Word?” (Poems, p. 75). Thanks to you, people of all ages, all over the world, can also answer, “Yes!”

That’s why I want to expand this thank-you out to readers and writers I don’t get to meet face to face. Thank you so much for your contributions. And I want to remind you that no matter how small it seems, your healing is hugely important. It is proof that God exists, that He is good, and that His laws—Christian Science—do bring freedom and peace to everyone, everywhere.
