Ear obstruction dissolved

One summer I worked in the kitchen of a Christian Science summer camp while two of my three children participated as campers. After our first dinner, I checked in with my son, who was 13 at the time. He reported that he was having trouble hearing in one ear. Though his dad had recently helped clean the ear, I noticed a mass of hardened wax obstructing it. My husband’s prediction that this would be a recurring problem seemed to be coming true.

As I prayed about the situation with an expectancy of healing, I thought of a statement in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive” (p. 463). In Christian Science, God is understood to be the one, infinite Mind, and man—each of God’s children—to be Mind’s spiritual idea. So this was a helpful reminder that nothing, including excess ear wax, could interfere with my son’s rightful, joyous activity as God’s offspring.

Then a friend shared the inspiring thought that divine Love opens all avenues and clears all channels, removing every seeming obstruction to the flow of good from God to His creation. I affirmed in prayer that the divine Mind is always communicating to its ideas, so nothing could block my son’s hearing or his receptivity to the truth of God.
