Freedom found during church service

One Wednesday evening over a decade ago, I felt very unwell. I curled up on my bed, and it seemed I would need to miss the testimony meeting at The Mother Church (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston) that evening. However, I heard a very clear angel message from God telling me that I should go to church because I knew I could be healed. Knowing that it was important for me to be obedient to this instruction, I made my way to church, layered in clothing to keep warm.

During the second half of the meeting, when attendees shared testimonies of healing, a visitor from out of town stood up to tell about a healing they’d had. I was listening intently when this simple but powerful phrase caught my attention: “Because I am a Christian Scientist, . . .” I then looked over to the front wall of the edifice, where I saw the following Bible quotation: “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:2).

It was as if God had stitched together those two ideas for me, and it was then that I had a clear, healing thought: “Because I am a Christian Scientist, I know that ‘the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.’ ”
