Quickly healed on a business trip
Recently, I was on a business trip that took me to very different climate zones, varying from a city at high altitude to the tropics. One hot and humid night, I felt very ill in my hotel room. I fell on the stone floor of the bathroom and became unconscious. When I regained consciousness, I felt very weak. I got up, made it back into bed, and started praying.
Immediately I thought of a prayer I turn to regularly called the “Daily Prayer.” It comes from the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, but its application is truly universal: “ ‘Thy kingdom come;’ let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!” (p. 41).
I was slipping in and out of consciousness, but I held on to that idea of the reign of God—divine Truth, Life, and Love—being “established in me.” This reminded me that there cannot be anything in me that is not expressing the all-power of Truth, the all-presence of Life, and the all-harmony of Love. Nothing can be present in God’s, Spirit’s, offspring—which includes me—except God’s perfect expression of Himself. His perfect, spiritual reflection cannot suffer, be sick, or collapse. As God’s reflection, man is ever invigorated by divine Life and Love.
