The Comforter teaches all things
Christian Science brings to humanity Christ Jesus’ comforting teaching that we are not pawns of heredity and environment, destined to eke out a small existence encumbered by age, sickness, or pain. It teaches that God is Life with a capital L, and that God and man are inseparable as cause and effect—as eternal Life and Life’s spiritual, eternal expression. This understanding can change lives—as can be seen in the transformation and healing that came into Mary Baker Eddy’s life, and the lives of her students, after she discovered this Science of Christ underlying Jesus’ teaching and ministry.
Mrs. Eddy’s discovery came through her lifelong study of the Bible and devotion to God. She referred to Christian Science as “the Comforter,” of which Christ Jesus says, according to the King James Version of the Bible, “I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth” (John 14:16, 17). This Comforter is an invincible power and is always present to redeem human thought from a mistaken view of life.
What does Jesus say the Comforter does? It “shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26). The Comforter offers profound spiritual understanding. It reveals the law of God, Spirit—the divine law of harmony and unchanging good—which has the unequivocal power to bring healing by lifting individuals out of a mistaken identification with matter or the body.
