‘Thirsty for spiritual development’
I started studying Christian Science in 2014. For about four years prior to this, I felt God actively leading me. I had undergone a crisis of sorts upon turning forty. I had a good home life, a good career, a wonderful mate, and two lovely kittens we considered to be our little “children,” and yet I felt lost and empty. I was thirsty for spiritual development.
A coworker of mine, who wasn’t a Christian Scientist, mentioned Christian Science to me, and I was immediately intrigued. She said it sounded like exactly what I was looking for. After I attended a service at a Church of Christ, Scientist, one of the lovely church members gave me a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I decided to immerse myself 100 percent in Christian Science, and work with a Christian Science practitioner to see if I could experience the healings I kept reading about.
The ideas I was learning were exhilarating. The practitioner, who seemed to know exactly what I needed, began to help me, and I felt as if God was leading this whole effort. I was experiencing an awakening to my true spiritual being and began “unlearning” mistaken material concepts. First and foremost, I learned that I am made in the image and likeness of God, and that God is all good. Therefore, I could never be broken, limited, or anything less than harmonious, since I reflect God. That was so powerful! My thought was being purified. I realized that the healthy thoughts I was keeping were important and had an influence on the body.
