Three proofs of healing
A couple of years ago, early in the year I noticed an ugly skin condition on my arms and legs. I prayed periodically for months, and yet it spread. Then I realized that I’d probably been praying more to get rid of an ugly skin condition than to gain a better understanding of God, which I’ve learned is what truly leads to healing. A week before an inspiring yearly meeting that is very important to me—a gathering mainly of individuals who have all taken a course in Christian Science healing with the same teacher—I became frightened that the condition was spreading to where I would not be able to hide it with clothing.
I felt I should call a Christian Science practitioner to help me pray to let go of the fear and find healing. I called someone who would be attending the same meeting. She primarily reminded me of the prayerful work we were all doing to prepare for the meeting and suggested that I keep my attention on that. I was dismayed; I felt that the practitioner was not impressed with my situation. Although Christian Science practitioners rightly turn us to God, Spirit, and away from problem-focused thinking, I was too focused on the condition at the time to appreciate her clear thinking. But I still asked her to pray for me.
Feeling desperate, I let go as best I could of my concern regarding the problem, humbly yielded to the goodness of God, and prepared my thought for the upcoming meeting. I decided I would wear what I had intended to wear, and fully trust God. And when the day of the meeting arrived, the problem was gone—there wasn’t one single spot! A problem that had been going on for several months had been dealt with by the practitioner through just a few words and consecrated prayer. And the problem has not returned. I am so grateful for Christian Science practitioners, as well as for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered Christian Science, for her many wise provisions for our spiritual growth.
