A better approach

Thanks so much for this wonderful article (“The body’s not the boss,” Fenna Corry, January 6, 2014, Sentinel). The anecdote about the Christian Science practitioner that started the day by telling his body he had washed it, dressed it, and fed it, so he did not want to hear another word from it today, really resonated with me.

I find that I often talk to my body and say some not so nice things to it, so this is a much better approach. This is not just ignoring issues, but being very proactive and protection/prevention oriented. I’ve started doing the same (it makes me giggle), but it is such an uplifting way to start the day.

Thank you for all the periodicals and to all the people who so thoughtfully contribute.

Unfailing protection

Thanks to Curtis Edge for sharing these thoughts [“Protection online and off,” December 16, 2013, Sentinel]. Working in information technology, and especially information security, for the past few decades, I have been grappling with the problems of malware and system vulnerabilities. Many of my clients are frustrated by the fact that the human solutions mitigate the threats but do not guarantee total protection. But Edge writes that watchfulness and prayer are “our means of unfailing protection.” Knowing that there are indeed solutions is reassuring.

Great reminder

Thank you for the testimony in the December 9, 2013, Sentinel,Saved from a dangerous current” [Edward Sage]. I loved how a simple thought from God got the whole situation flowing—from “There is no spot where God is not!” to the lovely Psalm 139 that reassures us of God’s ever-presence and control.

As a mother of four, that simple prayer was a mainstay in our family for many years. The children have grown and are independent, and I know there still is no spot where God is not. The testimony was a great reminder and reassurance. I also enjoyed the gentleman who came to the rescue not knowing why he was there at the moment. He, too, was following God’s guidance.

Thank you so much for sharing this, Edward Sage!

From the Editor: Two readers have drawn our attention to statements in Marjorie Kehe’s article “A theatrical wake-up call” (December 9, 2013). In the JSH-Online version of the article, we have clarified the text as follows: “I found that incident to be a vivid illustration of the false suggestion of evil to draw us in.” And, “Jesus’ life and works were consummate proof that right here and now we can throw off the lying illusions of the Adam dream.”
