Business situation resolved
In my work I’m involved with surveying and valuing property. For several weeks earlier this year, as the result of banks suing valuers for allegedly overvaluing property, I found it very difficult to obtain professional indemnity insurance when my policy expired. This went on for about a month. Various extensions were granted while my broker attempted to obtain insurance for me. My current insurer gave me a final extension of two weeks, and the governing body for my business informed me that unless I obtained insurance on the expiry of this extension I would have to cease practicing as a surveyor/valuer. This meant that not only would I be without a job, but also I would have no insurance cover for the work I had already undertaken.
I contacted a Christian Science practitioner, who drew my attention to the Christian Science Bible Lesson of that week, titled “Man,” in which the word perfect appeared 20 times! It also included the story of Zacchaeus, a tax collector, who was considered to be a sinner. Zacchaeus had climbed a tree to see Jesus and, you could say, realized something of his perfection when he met the Christ, Truth, face to face, and as a result vowed restitution for any acts of corruption he had committed (see Luke 19:1–10). I saw I also needed to affirm my own perfection as a child of God and my ability to do my work as His reflection. We read in Psalms 37:37, “Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.”
Jesus said, “You, therefore, must be perfect [growing into complete maturity of godliness in mind and character having reached the proper height of virtue and integrity], as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5:48, Amplified Bible). I found out that the Greek word teleios, translated here as “perfect,” can mean “wanting nothing necessary to completeness” or being “full grown.” These ideas replaced discouraging thoughts with the truth about myself.
