Lump in breast dissolved
First published in O Arauto da Ciência Cristã, the Portuguese edition of The Herald of Christian Science.
I have great confidence in God’s power and a keen sense of the divine presence and action in my life. I am very grateful for an acknowledgment of the omnipresence of Love, which always guides me. I acquired this understanding thanks to the teachings of Christian Science.
About two and a half years ago, the importance of keeping thought aligned with God and trusting in His protection was again confirmed to me. At the company where I work, annual medical checkups are required. My mammogram identified a lump. Even when faced with that diagnosis, I tried not to be frightened but to rely on prayer.
On the recommendation of my company and my family, during the following three weeks I submitted myself to a series of additional tests, including an MRI, to determine if the lump was benign or malignant. During this period, I counted on the support of a Christian Science practitioner, who helped me through prayer to conquer fear and keep thought in line with God.
Together, we prayed with the ideas of “the scientific statement of being” from Science and Health, which says in part: “There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. . . . Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual” (p. 468). I became more and more aware that, as the image and likeness of God, who is Spirit, I am completely spiritual and perfect, and I express only that which reveals the divine perfection.
To the doctors’ surprise, the results of the MRI and of the other tests showed no lump in the breast. I attribute this outcome to the prayers that acknowledged that, since disease is not sent by God, it is not real and has no inherent power.
In December 2010, as required by my job, I had to undergo new tests, which confirmed the absence of any abnormality.
For me, this healing is further evidence that organic functions are maintained in perfect activity by divine decree and are governed by the infallible action of Truth.
