In proportion

It's encouraging to find that as our genuine understanding of and love for God grow, our ability to prove Love's healing power grows.

Newcomers to Christian Science have proved many times that the ability to heal through prayer as taught by this Science is not based on the length of time one has been its student. Rather the basis for such proof or demonstration is established in proportion to our willingness to let go of material thinking and accept the truth that Christian Science teaches.

The first chapter of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, opens with the statement "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." Science and Health, p. 1. To me, this is an assurance that in proportion to our "absolute faith that all things are possible to God" we are able to prove the healing efficacy of Christian Science.

The phrase in proportion is used many times in Science and Health—in relation to sin, ignorance, fear, human will, heredity, enlarged human capacities, courage, perfection, understanding, and other subjects.
