College students today have the right to expect more from their internships than fetching coffee and making copies, which is why TMC Youth has been working hard over the past eight years to develop an internship experience that provides students with an opportunity to make a significant contribution, deepen their love and understanding of church, and develop a greater awareness of their role as a member of The Mother Church.

The 22 internships we’re offering this summer are all different with unique learning opportunities and responsibilities. The work assignments are thought-provoking, and we strive to provide these interns with responsibilities that will develop them professionally.

We put an emphasis on conveying the healing impact of this work and their role in it. As one intern stated,

The first day of the internship, I left thinking, I want to be a healer. The ensuing weeks began to teach me how to do that. I learned the importance of watching my own thought. My motto for this summer became this passage from The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany: “To live so as to keep human consciousness in constant relation with the divine, the spiritual, and the eternal, is to individualize infinite power; and this is Christian Science” (Mary Baker Eddy, p. 160). This will continue to be my motto when I leave so that I can fulfill the purpose outlined for me later.

Interns dedicate 90 minutes each week in service to the local church community, supporting the Reading Room, tour activity, chiming, ushering, nursery, Sunday School, and even the Plaza’s social media pages. They are valued members of the team, and they will get plenty of opportunities to make a difference in the world through the good they accomplish.

“The first day of the internship, I left thinking, I want to be a healer. The ensuing weeks began to teach me how to do that.”

The dynamic structure of this program will introduce interns to a diversity of church workers, give a comprehensive understanding of the Church Manual, and allow them to collaborate with several different supervisors and managers. Not only will interns develop a larger professional network, but they’re treated like a valued member of the team. Here’s an insight into The Mother Church’s culture and work environment from another individual who was here last summer:

This internship went above and beyond the goals and expectations I had for it when I first applied. I had no idea how much I would learn and grow as a professional and church worker. This internship allowed me to contribute and give more than I expected. I reached my goal of becoming more involved and informed about The Mother Church, JSH-Online, my department, and more!

This isn’t just a typical internship program ... but, rather, it is an opportunity to actively support and contribute to this movement’s global impact! We have 22 different positions, and we hope that you take the time to read through them all and consider applying (or share it with someone you think might be interested). College students have a lot to offer this organization, and we love having them bring their new skills and knowledge to The Mother Church.
