"THE BIBLE IS OUR SEA-BEATEN ROCK"

The place that the Scriptures hold in the lives of Christian Scientists is evidenced in the first religious tenet of Christian Science, it specifies (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 497), "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life."

For the Bible to be known and loved, it must be read, and read it is each day of the week by earnest students of Christian Science. The Lesson-Sermon, read on Sunday in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, and found in the Christian Science Quarterly, consists of Bible selections pertinent to the subject for the week, together with explanatory passages from Science and Health. It is to be studied by Christian Scientists each day in advance of the Sabbath.

To gain a broader comprehension of the Bible as a whole and to search out the inspired provisions of that great Book, the serious student finds that it is of value to become familiar with the entire volume. While doing this he may well ask himself: Am I claiming for myself the fullness of God's promises? Do I agree that the precious promises and examples of the prophets and the apostles are mine to accept and exemplify in demonstration today? Am I cheating myself with regard to the blessings incident to a deep understanding of the Scriptures?
