THE LAW OF GOD

On the first page of "Rudimental Divine Science," Mary Baker Eddy replies to the question, "How would you define Christian Science?" in these words: "As the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony." This definition brought much enlightenment and help to a student of Christian Science when she was faced with what seemed to be a difficult problem, and it has continued to bring her inspiration and healing whenever she has properly applied it to any circumstance.

There are main passages in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and her other writings in which Mrs. Eddy tells us that Christian Science does some definite thing. A study of these passages with the help of Concordances will be found most interesting, particularly in the light of the definition already quoted.

The law of God, or Christian Science, bases the government of divine Principle; it is unerring, immutable, always available, and it can be applied with certainty and absolute exactness. It is a law of annihilation to every belief in a physical law, and it brings freedom to those who have believed themselves to be in bondage to any law of heredity or transmitted taint. The Bible tells us that "the law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;" in other words, this law of God removes the fears and plaguing suggestions of physical sense and replaces them with the peace of spiritual sense, which bears witness to the perfection of God and His spiritual creation.
