HEALING IS BUILDING

Those who would build a strong structure require a good foundation. In order to bring this fact to the attention of his disciples Christ Jesus likened a wise man to one who built his house upon a rock (Matt. 7:25): "And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock."

The rock upon which the Church of Christ, Scientist, is built is Christ-healing, for this is the foundation laid in the New Testament. Nevertheless, for centuries religionists have endeavored to raise the structure of Christendom without complete obedience to Christ Jesus' instruction to heal the sick. They have erected therefore in some instances a structure incapable of withstanding the strain and stress of controversy. Thus the healing power and spiritual unity of Christianity have tended to become a disunity of creeds and sects. Today, however, through the discovery of Christian Science by Mary Baker Eddy, Christianity is again enabled to return to its original mission of healing based upon positive, scientific demonstration.

Christian Science may not at once find general acceptance. Not because there is a flaw in its logic or a limit to its achievements, but because its teaching and practice may seem revolutionary compared with the commonly accepted religious systems of the day.
