One day in summer I was trying to uproot a seedling box...

One day in summer I was trying to uproot a seedling box elder. One tug at it left it still standing; another, harder pull followed, and it gave way so suddenly that I fell backward onto the hard turf. With some difficulty I made my way to the house and to bed. A practitioner was called, absent treatment was begun, and some of the effects of the injury, including severe hemorrhage, yielded at once. It was several weeks before I joined the family at meals, but progress toward recovery was steady. The practitioner came a hundred and fifty miles to see me, and a daughter came also to look after me. None of the others in the household were Christian Scientists, but complete freedom of action was accorded me.

For many years I had practiced the prophylactic art of Christian Science, and now the therapeutic art was applied. I have often testified to the continued operation of Christian Science in keeping me well and active, so after our return to Chicago, this experience was given at the Thanksgiving Day service. Some weeks later a member of the congregation told me she had been healed of the effects of a fall in listening to the testimony.

There are no aftereffects from the experience I have related, and my gratitude for the wonderful healing and sustaining power of Christian Science is unbounded. I also acknowledge thankfully the help of all those who assisted in applying the truth, and the consideration of those who would have preferred medical treatment, but who aided me in every way to get in touch with the practitioner, and refrained from comment as the healing progressed.
