Christian Science, instead of being a fallacy, as a reverend...

Christian Science, instead of being a fallacy, as a reverend gentleman has claimed, is truly Christian and is based absolutely on the teachings and demonstrations of Christ Jesus. The Bible is its only authority and the only source of its teachings, as will soon be discovered by any one who will read the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, with an unprejudiced mind. It teaches the highest and purest morality, the cleanest living and thinking, and it honors God as no other system does, recognizing in Him the only Life, Mind, or power, and man as made in His image and likeness, reflecting all that belongs to his Maker. Christian Science teaches that as God is good, His creation being like Him must be good; and that as evil is no part of the divine creation, it is unreal in the sense that God's creation is real. If sin is real, God must have created it, and He could not have been a wholly good God who would or could create sin.

With the beloved disciple, Christian Science teaches that God is Love, and Christian Scientists are trying to imitate God in reflecting the love that is pure, loving their neighbors as themselves, and thus fulfilling the divine command. Instead of Christian Science being a prayerless religion, all of its work is the outcome of the prayer of understanding. To quote from the text-book (p. I), "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love."

Christian Scientists are taught to love Christ Jesus and to take him at his word; believing and living in harmony with his teachings, they imitate him in keeping his commandments to heal the sick and lift up the fallen and unfortunate. In the text-book (p. 583) Christ is defined as "the divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error." On page 589 of the same book we find the definition of Jesus as "the highest human corporeal concept of the divine idea, rebuking and destroying error and bringing to light man's immortality."
