Useful joy
Kit Cornell Kurtz
A night seems dark,
the path unlit,
the massive mountain
high and steep.
Is our prayer useful?
Does it feel hard
to sing our song,
pray our prayer,
talk to God?
The mourning dove sings
before the dawn.
It does not bring the day,
but sunlight arrives.
The dove announces.
It is a daily prophet
a truth teller of
useful joy.
