Spirit
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
In an example of outreach to the scattered Christian churches, Paul encourages the Galatians to turn from the “works of the flesh” and be “led of the Spirit” (see vv. 18–21). The virtues of Spirit are assured as “fruit” to all who follow Christ.
Bible authorities note the effortless action implied by the fruit metaphor. One suggests: “Fruit isn’t something made, manufactured, or engineered. . . . It’s the result of a life of faith that is both germinated and nurtured by God’s Spirit.”
