Injuries after a fall healed, tendency to criticize abates

Recently, my husband and I moved to a house that needed remodeling. One Wednesday afternoon I pulled into our steep driveway behind the contractor’s truck. As I was balancing bags of groceries and closing the car door with my knee, I fell backward and tumbled several yards down the driveway. I hit the back of my head hard on the concrete. Groceries flew everywhere, and my cries for help were unheard over the noise of a jackhammer.

Finally, a young worker saw me and, with extreme gentleness, helped me up and into the house, all the while saying over and over that he was sorry for what had happened and for not seeing me sooner.

My husband wasn’t home or reachable by phone, so I called a Christian Science practitioner I knew, to ask him to pray for me. I don’t think he recognized my voice. My jaw was dislocated and my voice shaky. The practitioner greeted me with a warm, “Hello, dear; how are you?”
