The healing message: Keep practicing!
Four years ago, I noticed that I had a mole on my neck which began bothering me and bled when scratched. This set up strong fear and what-ifs that came from the media’s constant focus on skin growths.
I contacted a Christian Science practitioner, who calmed my fears by reassuring me that disease has no power, that it is just a “bald imposition” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 99), without a history. She encouraged me to take a stand and not take in mortal mind’s ruminations—any thoughts that would suggest I have a life separate from God.
The practitioner led me to an interview in an issue of The Christian Science Journal from a few years ago, which reinforced for me the idea that the law of God that is in operation is always a law of harmony and healing. It underscored that good is the only power (“Christian healing: field-tested insights,” a conversation with James Spencer, July 2009).
