Changed for the better
This is adapted from a comment originally published on JSH-Online.com in response to the Question of the Week, “If you've ever felt as if you were losing your faith in God, how did you get it back?” To read an expanded version of this healing, visit sentinel.christianscience.com/out-of-the-fog.
When my dad died at age 46, I decided that God wasn’t worth much. How could I love God whom I didn’t trust, who let such an awful thing happen?
I was not a Christian Scientist at that time. I was living in England, and by a very happy circumstance, I met a Christian Science Minister for Armed Services Personnel. He gave me a Christian Science Quarterly. I already owned copies of the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy. But I didn’t read either of them. He gently encouraged me to begin studying these books and then answered some of my hard questions.
My thinking and my life began to change dramatically for the better. My family began to experience healings, my marriage improved, and I had the feeling of moving forward and making progress. I also met some dear new friends—some of whom are still my friends today.
