Burned out?

WHETHER IT'S BECAUSE of responsibilities on the job, or as parents, students, or athletes, people often feel burned out. Overworked. Spread too thin.

I've encountered this through my involvement with sports. Training for cross-country skiing two or three times a day, six days a week, pretty much year round, can get very routine and boring, sometimes unbearable. In addition to mental burnout, I also have to deal with extreme physical fatigue.

In the middle of summer training one season, I was so tired that I failed to complete a 7.5 kilometer fitness test. I was sobbing out of pure exhaustion and frustration, and I was really scared that my race season was doomed because I'd overtrained.
