When a doctor informed me many years ago that I would one day suffer from severe rheumatism, my reaction was one of skepticism. At the time, I was working in the pharmaceutical field, and was all too familiar with the ever-changing views on how diseases were caused and how they were to be treated.
When I stood up about half an hour later, I was able to move my fingers freely again.
