Dear Sentinel
Last year, I was the only girl in town to sign up for the Recreation Department's seventh-and eighth-grade girls' basketball team. So I ended up on a boys' team. This was fine with me because I have had a lot of friends who are boys.
But when I got to the first practice, I got really scared. I watched the boys shooting and dribbling and thought, "No way can I do this." I shrank into a mental shell for the rest of practice. Whenever someone spoke, I was convinced that it was a mean comment directed at me.
When I got home I decided to read the Bible Lesson that I got from the Christian Science Quarterly. As I was reading through the Bible, this thought came to me: since God is infinite and God is strength, everyone reflects God's power, not just boys. With this idea in mind, I became more aware of equality, as well as grace. I saw that as a reflection of God, I had the grace not to suspect the boys of making rude comments.
