A healing that has been especially helpful to me came after I...
A healing that has been especially helpful to me came after I had been praying for almost a year. I had an ongoing condition that involved very difficult breathing. One morning, while doing my chores outside, this came on so strongly that I thought I would pass on at that very moment—I just couldn't get any air. Immediately I thought of the Bible verse "Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?" (Isa. 2:22). This verse had been in the previous week's Christian Science Bible Lesson.
To me, breath symbolized inspiration, and faith in the knowledge and goodness of God. Knowing myself to be His perfect child, created and held in His image, I trusted in God as my Life. In Acts 17:28 I had read, "for in him we live, and move, and have our being." There is only one man, and that man is spiritual. I held the inspiration of these truths in my consciousness, as the laws governing me at that very moment. I was instantly freed and able to breathe normally, and I remembered these words: "If man is governed by the law of divine Mind, his body is in submission to everlasting Life and Truth and Love" (Science and Health, p. 216).
I finished my work, which went on well into the afternoon, with no further evidence of that condition. And to this day, nine years later, the problem has never returned. That was an instantaneous healing, and I knew that my full reliance on the truth had been my reward and my blessing.
