Overcoming disasters through prayer
There's much to gain by turning to God during difficult times.
What can one do when faced with financial, emotional, or other disasters? Are disasters actually God's will? For someone faced with a devastating loss, searching for an answer to these questions can lead to new strength and a deep-rooted, abiding confidence in God's active presence in our lives.
I recently experienced spiritual growth along these lines while digging out from what seemed an almost insurmountable disaster involving my first home.
I'd been saving many years to buy this house. It required all I had. The day after I moved in, half the road above my house slid because of a significant rainstorm. The slide damaged and destabilized my home's foundation, requiring repairs beyond my means. I was told the hill on which I lived could continue sliding.
