Don't Struggle—Get Still!

True prayer enables one to gain a glimpse of spiritual reality. In an ever-increasing degree it empowers one to see through and beyond one's seeming material environment and to feel and know the healing presence of God.

To pray effectively one should never attempt to inform or influence the divine Being. To do this would indicate ignorance of God's nature. From the words and works of Christ Jesus, as illuminated by Christian Science, one learns that God is Love, unchanging divine Principle, the infinite creative Mind that knows all, does all, is All. Obviously, then, He orders and controls His universe without help from us. Mrs. Eddy clarifies this point by asking several arresting questions. She writes: "Can we inform the infinite Mind of anything He does not already comprehend? Do we expect to change perfection? Shall we plead for more at the open fount, which is pouring forth more than we accept?" Science and Health, p. 2;

But how often we are fooled by material evidence and lose sight of this! Things may not be going the way we want them to go. We let impatience and self-will mislead us, and our prayers become stressful struggles to make ourselves heard and to bend the divine will.
