The Measure of Man's Capabilities

Every thinking person at one time or another has a deep desire to know more about his capabilities. He longs to prove to himself, and possibly to others, the extent of both his physical and moral strength and the breadth of his wisdom and knowledge.

In Christian Science an infallible rule to follow in attempting to measure one's own capabilities is given by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health. She says: "The human mind will sometime rise above all material and physical sense, exchanging it for spiritual perception, and exchanging human concepts for the divine consciousness. Then man will recognize his God-given dominion and being." Science and Health, p. 531;

Mrs. Eddy learned through her study of the Bible that the wonderful works of Christ Jesus were a result of his spiritual perception of God as Father, the all-powerful creator, and of His love for man. She further learned that a knowledge of his true selfhood as the Son of God endowed Jesus with the spirit of the Christ beyond measure. Her study brought to light that Christ Jesus, in teaching and illustrating to his disciples the immutable law of divine Principle, had demonstrated a Science available to mankind for all time.
