My husband and I had a pleasurable trip visiting our son and his family at the holiday time. But one day I felt a severe pain in my hip, which I dismissed with the thought that I had a kink in my back. Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health (p. 392), "Stand porter at the door of thought." That I did not do.

We enjoyed seeing many of our friends, and I continued to let the condition go, even though it was very painful and the pain continued down my leg. Relatives who were not Christian Scientists and who saw me struggling to rise and sit down gave their opinion that it was an arthritic condition.

About then I realized I could not let this condition continue, but since we were guests in our son's home, I found it difficult to find the opportunity to do prayerful work for myself. I called a friend and practitioner who clearly explained that no matter what the condition might be or where, it was not of God's creating.
