The Might of Meekness

In Christian Science meekness is never associated with weakness. Meekness is a quality that partakes of the omnipotence of divine Love. He who is truly meek looks to God, divine Life, Truth, and Love for support and finds it. Our Master, Christ Jesus, knew this. He was demonstrating meekness in the presence of omnipotence when he said to the people who sought to kill him because he had healed the lame man on the Sabbath day, "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me." John 5:30;

To one unacquainted with the teachings of Christian Science, the association of meekness with power, yes, with omnipotence, may seem incongruous. Yet where is true, spiritual might to be found? Surely only in God. Man has no might of his own. All the power which he has comes to him from God by reflection. Man, the spiritual idea of God, reflects omnipotence because God is omnipotent. If an individual believes that might originates with himself, he does not express meekness nor reflect omnipotence.

When one who is not a student of Christian Science is troubled with a condition which needs healing, whether it be sickness, a discordant human relationship, or any other of the many situations which appear to plague mankind, he may turn to various sources, including people, for relief. Invariably a personal element is involved, and egotism may say in effect, "You take my advice and do this or that."
