(a' men'—a as in ace, e as in end; often a' men'—a as in arm, e as in end—always in singing). A word occurring in this form in many languages, including Hebrew, Greek, Latin, and Anglo-Saxon. It is generally construed as meaning, "so is it; so shall it be; so be it"; and is used in solemn ratification of an expression of faith, a creed, prayer, blessing, or the like. The Hebrew root 'aman with which it is connected implies faith, stability, constancy, truth.
