Church Building Prospers Through Right Motives

The desire to serve the community more effectively is one of the reasons underlying the building of Christian Science church edifices, and this right motive is always richly blessed. Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 326), "Working and praying with true motives, your Father will open the way."

A branch church overcame several obstructions to its building program through maintaining a scientifically correct attitude as to its aim and purposes. It writes:

"The local Board of Education, with no advance announcement to us, selected for a school building site the land our church had previously purchased for its contemplated church edifice. Legal notice was served upon the church to the effect that, should local voters approve the school building program, our church would be legally obligated to sell its land to the school board.
