I am very grateful to Mary Baker Eddy for her untiring efforts in giving us "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," because of the healings and comfort I have received through studying Christian Science, I have witnessed many healings in our home during the last forty years, among them those of an ear discharge of many years' duration which had been pronounced incurable by ear specialists, pleural lobar pneumonia in its last stages, infantile paralysis, and influenza in a severe form. Also financial stress has been overcome.

The following instance of healing of a discordant financial situation stands out to me, although no specific effort was made to correct the condition. A number of years ago my husband's lumber mill was completely destroyed by fire, and it became necessary to mortgage our home to promote the purchase of another mill. When the mortgage had been negotiated the passing on of my husband brought further action to a close. It took the greater part of the money on hand to clear the mortgage. The thought often came to me that it was unjust for me to have this expense, but I met the suggestion by being thankful that my husband had had the comfort of a financial resource and therefore had been saved much anxiety.

Several years after this experience I became interested in getting a better understanding of the verse from the Bible (Eccl. 3:15), "That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past." I gave it much earnest thought each day until it unfolded clearly in this way: all that has ever been true has been God and His law, governing all, and that is true now; all that ever can be true is God and His law, and that is true now; there never has been and never will be any contrary power or law to set aside this only power and law; therefore, there really has never been any injustice and never will be. From this reasoning I gained a great sense of peace, but I did not connect it with the preceding circumstances.
