Mary Baker Eddy, our inspired...

Mary Baker Eddy, our inspired Leader, writes on page 242 of Science and Health, "Through repentance, spiritual baptism, and regeneration, mortals put off their material beliefs and false individuality." Although I was brought up in Christian Science and attended Sunday School regularly. I had to go through a testing time before the realization of my true selfhood became apparent to me.

Shortly after I entered the business world the false suggestion came that in order to be popular I must be "one of the crowd. I was not alert to the suggestion, and so for a period of about a year I yielded to it. But the testing time came in the form of a recurrence of an aggravated bronchial condition which had presented itself each winter for three or four years for a period of about two weeks.

I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner, which was lovingly given, but with a firm understanding that I too must do my part. She referred me to the article in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" by our Leader entitled "Mrs. Eddy's Reply." My study of this article soon showed me that I must take my stand for Christian Science or else I would not be healed, nor would I progress spiritually, which I knew should be my only purpose.
